John Starks was quite a spark plug for the New York Knicks of the '90s. The Knicks drafted Starks in the second round of the 1990 NBA Draft. Starks played in 65 games during his rookie season and averaged 5.2 ppg and 2.3 APG until he fractured his left hand against the Washington Bullets on January 25, 1991.
Starks would return to play after missing 42 games. In his second season, Starks averaged 14.9 ppg and 4.3 APG.
After three seasons with an increasing role on the Knicks, Starks' fourth would be his best. Starks averaged 17.2 ppg and 6.4 APG (fifth in the league) while starting all 82 games for the Knicks.

He would make the NBA All-Star Game for three straight seasons, 1993-1995, before reaching his peak averages in 1996-1997, playing alongside Patrick Ewing, Charles Oakley, and Anthony Mason.
But Starks' Knicks career would soon come to an end. On July 19, 1997, the Knicks traded Starks to the Golden State Warriors for Chris Mills and Terry Cummings in a move that eventually allowed them to sign future Hall of Famer Latrell Sprewell.
Starks played one year with the Warriors before being traded to the Chicago Bulls on August 19, 1998. Ron Phillips of New York points out that Starks would play for two veteran teams in search of a championship appearance for the next two seasons.
