For New York native and sports enthusiast Ron Phillips, the New York Yankees are the ultimate team, not just in baseball, but in all of the professional sports. No other team can boast as much success as the New York-based baseball team.

1. Records among records

The Yankees didn't become the most successful team in pro sports by not toppling records. One of the most notable of these records started on May 15, 1941. That day marked the start of a 55-game winning streak that saw the legendary Joe DiMaggio break the consecutive game-hitting record.

Another impressive record the Yankees own is their three grand slams in a single game, which happened on August 25, 2011, with Robinson Cano, Russell Martin, and Curtis Granderson accomplishing this feat.

2. The Bambino acquisition

When people talk about all-time baseball greats, very few names are as revered as Babe Ruth. It also started the infamous "curse of the Bambino" for the Boston Red Sox, Ron Phillips adds

3. Gehrig’s speech

Probably the most emotional moment in Yankees history was when the great Lou Gehrig made a speech on June 19, 1939. He mentioned that he was retiring in the speech, thanked everyone, and shocked the world by announcing his fatal diagnosis. People wept.
